Montagnola, Switzerland

Looking over Lake Lugano and the city of Lugano itself, Montagnola is a small picturesque Swiss village in the Collina d’Oro (“Hill of Gold”) municipality, close to the Italian border. Thanks to its pleasant Mediterranean climate and scenery, Montagnola has attracted famous personalities such as Hermann Hesse, whose house there was turned into a museum in 1997. Over the years, the village has turned into a luxurious residential area, partly because of its proximity to the city of Lugano.

Although rather small, Lugano is a cosmopolitan city with a unique charm. Its history is visibly distinguished by broad piazzas, arcaded cobblestone streets, sidewalk cafes, restaurants, jewelry stores, fashion boutiques, and local food specialty shops.

Summer school in this Italian speaking corner of Switzerland (with all the luxuries of Swiss society) is sure to be a memorable experience.

About Camp

The camp we offer in Switzerland is a combination of academic, housing, and recreational facilities. The buildings were built during various time periods from the 17th century to the 21st century, juxtaposing historical aesthetic and modern function.

The campus features an impressive view of Lake Lugano and the surrounding mountains. An urban setting surrounded by natural riches, Montagnola offers a myriad of cultural and recreational opportunities.

Academic Summer Program

The Academic Summer Program in Montagnola is challenging, inspiring, and engaging. Courses offer students the opportunity to expand their minds while meeting new friends from around the world.

Each student selects one which becomes their focus for four hours every morning Monday to Friday. Depending on the session, students can choose between the following courses: Italian or French language, Academic Writing, Digital Photography, Fine Art Portfolio, Architecture & Design, Fashion & Textile Design, Musical Theater, International Baccalaureate Prep, Lean Startup Masterclass, and Italian Cooking. Students can also choose optional sports at an extra cost. They can practice soccer with professional coaches from AC Milan Academy “Scuola Calcio“ or basketball at Olimpia Milano Basketball. In crossfit students may attend strength and conditioning program consisting of aerobic exercise, calisthenics, and weightlifting.

City Tours and After-School Activities

Afternoons are devoted to sports, arts, excursions, outdoor adventures, and other exciting activities. Students can go windsurfing, paddle boarding, sailing, or swimming in the lakes; play tennis, soccer, basketball, or volleyball; or relax while practicing yoga or Pilates. Dance, drama, and musical theater options are also available, culminating in performances during the Summer Arts Festival.

During evening social time, students participate in fun activities, practice their chosen language, and appreciate the multicultural and multilingual experience of the program.

Situated in the heart of Europe, the program aims to introduce students to some of the majestic natural settings — from the Swiss Alps across the Swiss and Italian lakes to the Mediterranean coast. Traveling with Egida to Switzerland, students will experience a fantastic learning program and entertainment on an extraordinary campus that will make for a magical and unforgettable summer.
